Campbell River is home to two of Canada’s largest salmon hatcheries. Here you can explore the important conservation work up close and catch a glimpse of the many species of amazing salmon that visit the region during spawning season.

Quinsam River Hatchery

Located 5 km From Downtown Campbell River

This facility and its surrounding river and streams present outstanding opportunities for viewing salmon in their natural habitat and observing the processes of a successful, effective hatchery. Quinsam River Hatchery has been in operation since 1974.

Located just off Highway 28, the hatchery is where you can see juvenile salmon (all year) and returning salmon (late July to mid-November). Visitors can take self-guided tours seven days a week from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Conuma Hatchery

Located on Vancouver Island’s West Coast

Experience the genuine wonder of a hatchery in full swing.

The Conuma Hatchery, located between Gold River and Tahsis, is open to the public and provides free exploration and immersive tours. For safety, Conuma staff guide all public tours, which last around 30 minutes. To get here, follow Head Bay Forestry Road for 36 km starting from the village of Gold River.

The Conuma Hatchery is open to all visitors Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Phone: 250-283-7148
