A thundering waterfall and some of the finest year-round salmon fishing in Canada are just two of the reasons Elk Falls is one of the most popular provincial parks on Vancouver Island. Include extensive networks of forest trails, the nearby Quinsam Salmon Hatchery and, in the fall, the sight of spawning salmon in the Quinsam and Campbell Rivers, and it’s easy to see why this is an area beloved by visitors and locals alike.

Directions from the Campbell River Visitor Centre

(1235 Shoppers Row – Tyee Plaza):

  1. Follow the blue and white BC Parks highway signs to Elk Falls Park from Highway 19 at Campbell River
  2. Turn right off of Highway 28 onto the Brewster Lake Road and stay to the right to enter the parking lot. 
  3. Access to bridge will be via the parking lot trail, please use the parking lot at the trail head. 
  4. Be sure to bring water to drink and a camera to capture the view! #DiscoverCampbellRiver

BC Hydro Interpretive Centre

At the head of the trail, be sure to stop into BC Hydro’s interpretive centre. Local Museum staff on-site offers an in-depth history of the John Hart Project and updates on its progress through interpretive displays.

Visiting the Centre is free and combined with a walk in Elk Falls Park, is a perfect outing for the day.
