Petroglyphs at Tsa-Kwa-Luten Guided Tour
August 7 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Quadra Recreation Society invites families to join Jeanette Taylor and Marcy Wolter to look at petroglyphs at Tsa-Kwa-Luten on Sunday, August 7, 9:00 a.m. to noon. We’ll gather on the bluff next to Tsa-Kwa-Luten lodge to talk about the summer day in 1792 when British mariners visited the Indigenous people living here.
Your guides will talk about life at that time for the Indigenous people, and for sailors aboard the HMS ‘Discovery.’ And we’ll walk the boulder-strewn beach below to look for illusive petroglyphs—carvings on stone—which must be viewed in early morning on a low tide.
Jeanette Taylor is the author of several history books about our area, including ‘The Quadra Story, A History of Quadra Island.’ Marcy Wolter surveyed the petroglyph locations with the late Joy Inglis, anthropologist and author of ‘Spirit in the Stone.’
Participation is limited to 25 people and the fee is by donation. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Bring your own snacks, refreshments—or lunch.
