It is said that Jacques Cousteau proclaimed BC’s waters as the best cold-water diving in the world.  Divers here know that, and know about the amazing life that our nutrient-rich water produces, creating reefs teeming with life equal to anything you will come across no matter where you travel.  But divers are a small minority, so what is there for those that don’t have the knowledge on how to delve into the deeps?

Fortunately, when tides are very low, Willow Point Reef emerges, and is teeming with life.  It may just be the most amazing shoreline on the planet, but most people don’t realize that.  Biologist Sandra Milligan is keenly aware of how diverse and spectacular our intertidal zone is, and is sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with an experience as close as you can get to diving, without putting on a wetsuit.  Intertidal walks, organized by the Museum at Campbell River, offer a glimpse at the amazing diversity of sea life in our waters, and the fascinating life histories of the creatures who call our shorelines home.

Registration is at the Museum for the Intertidal Walks on June 6 from 1-2:30pm & June 16 from 10:30am-noon.   Participants need to be able to walk about 1 km, some of which is in ankle-deep water and on uneven surfaces.  Meet at the parking lot on Highway 19A at Larwood Rd at the program start time.  Leave 5 minutes to park and walk; please respect the business parking at Larwood Plaza. To register, call the Museum at Campbell River at 250-287-3103.  The cost is a special family rate of $30.00 for a family of up to 4 (including grandparents, parents, caregivers, respite workers and kids).  Adults are $15.00, children $7.50.  Email Sandra.Milligan@nic.bc.ca with any questions. www.crmuseum.ca
