International Museum Day
May 18 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Every year since 1977 the International Council of Museums has coordinated events around the world to celebrate International Museum Day on May 18th. The objective of these celebrations is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among people.”
The Museum at Campbell River is celebrating International Museums Day again this year. May 18th is the first day of their summer hours, where the Museum is open from 10am to 5pm, seven days a week. Their celebration this year will be themed “Behind the scenes at the Museum”, and they will be offering tours of the artifact storage room with Collections Manager Megan Purcell. “The Museum’s collection extends well beyond what the public normally sees in the exhibits. This is a rare opportunity for the public to see some of the artifacts that are not currently on display as part of our exhibits,” explains Purcell. The free tours will be offered from 1 to 3pm.
Take a closer look at the permanent exhibits by taking part in a brand new scavenger hunt! Find the clues and win a prize!
The Museum will also be offering free admission, and there will be refreshments from 1 to 3pm. The Museum Shop will have a free gift for the first 10 people in the Shop that day.
